Eligibility & Requirements

Nominations Season opens November 15th and runs through December 31st!

After a temporary but necessary hiatus of The Wammies to undergo a redesign, The Wammies are back!  Given the hiatus, we were unfortunately unable to celebrate 2024 music industry contributions this past spring.  Completely skipping over 2024 was not an option.  So, we decided we will combine 2024 and 2025 works so everyone has an opportunity to be recognized on The Wammies stage in 2026!  While this may mean that those in each category see more competition, we see this as a unique opportunity to bring even more of the community together.  In the end, we must ensure that we stay true to the mission of The MusicianShip, to empower youth and emerging musicians from communities throughout the DC metropolitan region and beyond by providing free music education and enrichment programs that build skills and amplify talents, resulting in positive life-changing outcomes.  The Wammies is one of those programs.

Please find below the Eligibility Requirements for the “Limited Edition Double Wammie,” recognizing the best of the DMV music scene across two cumulative years of creativity (2024 & 2025).  Nominee contributions must have been made during the 2024 and/or 2025 calendar years.  Once nomination season closes, all nominations, regardless of respective year, will be combined for the remainder of the voting and judging process. To clarify further, there will still be only one awardee per category even though two years of work are being recognized.

‍NEW!  This year, we will move to a Self-Nomination process.  Self-nomination for a “Double Wammie” award is permissible upon successful submission of a nominee profile and nomination(s) as well as self-registration with The MusicianShip. To help registrants maintain control of their artistic profile and directly impact votes cast in their favor, registrants must 1) create their Award Force profile and associated nominations (i.e. provide requested contact information, identify a point of contact, specify their musical genre(s) or other nomination category information, etc.) and 2) pay a one-time $20 registration fee plus $.91 in platform/processing fee ($20.91 total). Upon completion of these two steps, The Wammies will process your submissions and payment and confirm whether or not the nominee is “Wammie eligible”. To confirm, nominees may submit as many nominations as they’d like, within the parameters listed below.  All registration fees will be used to fund The MusicianShip’s mission and subsequently, The Wammie Music Awards. You can make your payment here.

Nominee Fee Example: R&B group WamFam would like to nominate their 2024 album and their 2025 album plus one song from each album for a 2026 Wammie. This equals four nominations for WamFam but WamFam only needs to pay a total of $20.90 since the fee pays for WamFam's nominee registration as a group, not for nominations.

Eligibility Requirements

For All Categories

  • A nominated song or album must have been released in the 2024 OR 2025 calendar year.
  • Nominees must first be registered with The Musicianship to become a “Wammie-eligible entity.”
  • Nominated music must be publicly accessible on (1) one of the approved streaming platforms: Apple Music, Spotify, Amazon Music, Tidal, Deezer, SoundCloud, BandCamp, YouTube, Qobuz
  • A song, album or artist can be nominated in up to (2) two different genre categories. However, the nomination will only move forward to the final judging round in the category where it receives the highest number of votes.  Example: A single released in 2024 may be submitted in the Best Rock Song and Best Funk Song categories. If the single receives more votes in the Rock category, it will advance as a finalist to the judging round in the Rock category.
  • A song or album may not be nominated more than once in the same category.  Artists may have multiple works nominated in the same category but each must be from a different year (2024 or 2025).
  • The nominee chooses the genre.
  • Any category with fewer than (4) four nominees will not be awarded.
  • Cover songs ARE eligible for Wammie nomination.  However, if the live show is live-streamed or televised, AND a cover song wins the Wammie, the cover song MAY NOT be played or performed live in its entirety, unless necessary licenses (proof of legal clearance from music publishers and original copyright owner) have been secured and provided in writing to The MusicianShip by communicated deadline.
